The National Disaster Medical System is scattered across the United States and today over 70 teams exist. This can create communications problems, expecially since we are all volunteers and have "other" regular jobs. The National Association of Disaster Response Teams seeks to take issues common to all teams, seek consensus from NADMAT team members through an open, democratic process and then take this consensus opinion to the officals at the Office of Emergency Preparedness. In no way does NADMAT membership prohibit any team commander or member from calling OEP at any time on any issue. Nor does NADMAT profess to represent any individual team.
NADMAT approached OEP and through presistence received commitment from them to provide training and equipment maintenance funds annually to each Level-1 team. We continue our efforts to increae funding and to obtain funds for other teams. Members of NADMAT also serve on the Equipment Committee contributing their talents to development of Basic Load and Pharmaceutical lists. We would like all teams to be members of NADMAT and work to build the NDMS system.
