Rules and Regulations

Unfortunately, we probably should have some rules and regs for contributing items to and dowloading items from this site.  Even anarchists have a rule that there are no rules so why should we be any different?  The rules are pretty minimal and if we all try and follow them the more at peace we'll all be.

Uploading/Contributing Items
  1. If you're contributing code (i.e., Perl, shell scripts, or C code) please include a README file that lets potential users know how to run and/or compile the code.  Use tar (Unix) or zip (Windoze) to consolidate items containing multiple components.  If you do not want to provide support to users of your contributed item please say so in your README file.
  2. If your item is large please compress it before uploading it.  Unix users - please use gzip or compress.  Our host will appreciate us saving his disk space.
  3. Please note that all contributed items will be considered  open source (www.opensource.org).  DO NOT contribute items if you don't want folks modifying them and spreading them  around or if your employer considers things you write to be their proprietary property.
  4. Make sure you do not contribute something that is copyrighted by SeeBeyond Corporation.
Downloading Items
  1. When using a downloaded item, you use it at your own risk.  Our user's group  provides absolutely no warrenty or guarantee as to the items production environment-worthiness.
  2. Please note that SeeBeyond Corporation make no endorsement of any kind for any of the items available through this site.
  3. If you modify and redistribute an item obtained from this site make sure you follow the open source rules outlined at the following site: www.opensource.org

How To Upload Items

Our host has been gracious enough (and trusts us enough) to provide anonymous ftp access for both uploads and downloads.  This means that you can upload items of your choosing at any time, 24 hours a day.

Traditional FTP Uploading
  1. Point your ftp client to:  mediccom.org
  2. Log in with a username of:  anonymous
  3. Use your e-mail address as a password
  4. Change directories to: datagate
  5. Set your transfer mode to binary if applicable
  6. put your item(s).
Web Browser Uploading
  1. This only applies to Netscape browsers.  I'm not familiar enough with the Monopolist's Internet Explorer to know if you can use that broswer to upload items.
  2. Point your browser to ftp://mediccom.org/datagate/
  3. Click on the File item at the top menu bar.
  4. Click on the Upload File item in the pull down menu and follow the "intuitive" process.

After You've Uploaded Your Item

E-Mail me: bdilworth@mco.edu  to let me know you've added an item.  Be sure to include the name of the item you've uploaded (e.g., MyScript.pl, MyShellScript.tar, MyCommClient.tar.gz), what kind of item it is (e.g., Perl script, shell script, 3.6.2 translation, monk function, etc., etc.), and a brief description so I can create a link on the appropriate category page.

Current Categories

The table below contains our current categories.  Please note that some categories may not yet contain downloadable items and are currently dark.  Our hope is that as folks begin contributing to this effort all categories will eventually light up. Clicking on a lighted category will take you to another page from which you can browse what's available and download the items therein.
